This is my first time joining in on Harvest Monday which is hosted by Daphne's Dandelions at daphnesdandelions.blogspot.com. Some of my crops are coming to an end while others are just starting. I finished harvesting all my cabbage and had to pull out my heading lettuce because it all started to bolt. I never got a chance to try my red iceberg lettuce. I will try again in the fall. I was able to harvest my first summer squash and all of my carrots. The squash I harvested were Butta, Patty Pan Sunburst, Green Tiger and Zephyr squash. The carrots I planted this spring were from a packet of rainbow carrots, which included Cosmic Purple, Atomic Red, Solar Yellow and Lunar White carrots. I also recently harvested my first beets and turnips. I planted three types of beets this spring, they are Chioggia, Golden and Detroit Dark. This was my first time growing turnips and I planted a variety called Golden Ball.
Yesterday in the heat and humidity I ran down to the garden for a half hour and was able to pick more summer squash and my fist cucumbers. The cucumber varieties I picked were Salt & Pepper, Garden Sweet and Boston Pickling.

Thanks for looking and Happy Gardening!
What a wonderful harvest you have there! Love the squashes and root veggies, but really love those purple carrots.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny! I love growing vegetables of all colors and varieties. I enjoy taking pictures of my garden, they are always colorful and vibrant.
DeleteGreat harvest! I am so jealous of your carrots, I always struggle to get a good harvest of carrots.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Carrots don't usually give me a problem fortunately. Now cauliflower and brussels sprouts on the other hand give me trouble every year.
DeleteGreat harvests and welcome to Harvest Monday! Those carrots are absolutely beautiful! My carrots did not do well this year. Maybe a later planting will do better. I think my first zucchini will be ready tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin! I love meeting new gardeners and starting a blog really has been wonderful. Fall/Winter carrots are so much better anyway. I planted carrots the end of September last year and pretty much just left them go thinking they died over winter and here when I was doing early spring clean up I found them as was turning soil! They were the best carrots I ever had, sweet like candy. I decided from now on I am going to plant some to over winter every year.
ReplyDeleteA really great looking harvest! Welcome to the Monday Harvest report!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am looking forward to being apart of Harvest Monday.
DeleteYour beets and carrots look wonderful! And it's great to see the varieties of summer squash you are growing.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I like to grow lots of varieties in my garden. Every year I try new things, some stay others go. Since I am fairly new at gardening there is a lot for me to try in the world of vegetable varieties.
DeleteRed Iceberg sounds really interesting, too bad it didn't behave, better luck on the next round. I love growing the multi-colored carrots, they make such a colorful addition to salads, if I can keep my husband from eating all of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I was really disappointed about the red iceberg lettuce. Hopefully it will do better in the fall.
ReplyDeleteVery nice harvest! Love that Butta squash! Like I don't already have my fill of squash ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your variety and colors.
Thank you! I am always trying new varieties in my garden.
ReplyDeleteYour vegetables all look great! Your squash and cucumbers are way ahead of mine, we have very cold nights that slow everything that likes it hot down. For squash I have had better luck with plain old Crookneck than the hybrids. My cucumbers are approaching size to harvest. I don't have much success with carrots and beets, I have vole problems.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hannah! We have voles down at my garden also, but so far they only went after my broccoli transplants last spring. Maybe you could try growing your root crops in deep containers.
