Tomato Tuesday

I love growing tomatoes, eating tomatoes and talking about tomatoes! I thought since I am obsessed with tomatoes that I would start spotlighting a different tomato I am growing every Tuesday on my blog. This weeks tomato spotlight will be about the first tomato that produced for me this year and that is "Bloody Butcher".

Bloody Butcher

It is an early producing open pollinated tomato that is indeterminate with potato leaves.  It produces 4oz. dark red tomatoes in abundance.  I have been picking at least one a day.  The flavor is a traditional tomato flavor and is very juicy when fully ripe.  I enjoy eating it fresh off the vine and I also have read that it is good for canning.  It matures in 55 days and is suppose to perform well in cooler areas.  I am pleased with this variety and will probably plant it again in the future.  My seed source for this variety was Burpee.  Have you ever grown Bloody Butcher, if so what was your experience?

  1. That looks like a tasty tomato, very meaty. Supersonics have been my go to plant for years and they have very small seed cavities too.

    1. Robin, I can share seeds with you if you would like to try them out next year. I actually mentioned to Dora in the beginning of the season about having a seed swap with the community gardeners at the end of the season.

  4. Very interesting variety, I need to try more early types as most of mine tend to be late in season.

  5. I grew it for two or three years in a row, and wish I had grown it this year! It was always my first to ripen. Not the best tasting tomato, but good. So much better than store bought, and so welcomed early in the season. Once the larger tomatoes started coming in, I used Bloody Butcher for juice and sauce. It was just nonstop! A similar tomato is Victor. It's also very early, but the seeds are much larger, so I didn't find it as tasty as BB.

    1. I agree with you that it is early, but the flavor is nothing special just average. I am going to try a different early variety next year called "Slava". I will have to look into "Victor". Thank you!
